Rounders

Hi students,

This new year will commence practising a new striking and fielding game, ROUNDERS. Although it is quite similar to baseball, it has different rules. It is very popular in UK and it will be practiced now at TAMIXA.

Rounders Rules

Rounders is a game played between two teams and the aim of the game is to score the most Rounders.

The basic rules are:

Teams can be a minimum of 6 players and a maximum of 15 players. 9 players are on the field for each team at any one time.

One team bats while the other team fields and bowls.

The bowler bowls the ball to the batter, who hits the ball anywhere on the Rounders pitch. The batter then runs to as many posts as possible before the fielders return the ball to touch the post the batter is heading for.

Games are usually played over 2 innings.

Scoring

If the batter reaches the 2nd or 3rd post in one hit, the batting team scores ½ Rounder.

If the batter reaches 4th post in one hit, the batting team scores a Rounder.

A batter is out if the fielding team catch the ball hit by a batter before it touches the ground or by touching the post the batter is running to with the ball before the batter reaches it.

If the runner reaches the 4th post on a no ball, the batting team scores 1 rounder. The batter cannot be caught out.

1/2 rounder scored if the 4th post is reached without the batter hitting the ball.

If the ball goes into the backward area the batter must stay at the 1st post until it reaches the outward area. If the 4th post is reached, 1 rounder is scored.

If 2nd post is reached before the next ball is bowled, the batting team get 1/2 rounder, but if the batter continues to run and is put out before the 4th post then it is taken off.

If the batter incurrs 2 no balls in a row then a penalty 1/2 rounder is given to the batting team.

There is a penalty 1/2 rounder given to the batting team if the batter is obstructed by a fielder.

The team with the most rounders wins.

Running around the track

Batters must always keep contact with the post, either with their hand or bat. If you don’t, the fielders can stump you out at the following post.

You don’t have to move to the next post every time a ball is bowled.

A batter may not remain at the same post as another batter. The umpire shall order the player who batted first to run on and may be put out in the usual ways. If they are both between posts and the batter coming up the rear runs past, then they would be out as the overtaker.

If you are at a post you cannot keep on moving to the next post when the bowler has the ball in his square. However, if you are between posts then you can keep on moving until you reach the following post.

If a post has been previously stumped, you can run on to it but there will be no score if the next post ahead has been stumped.

A player is out when:

• a batter runs on the inside of the posts
• the post the batter is running to is stumped
• you overtake a previous batter on the field
• the batter misses or hits the ball and their foot is over the front or back line of the batting square
• a fielder obstructs a batter
• you deliberately throw a bat
• the batter is caught out
• the batter loses contact with the post when the bowler has the ball

Batting Rules

You may use two hands when batting.

All batters must wait far behind the batting square and well away from the 4th post.

If a player is out, they must also wait in the backward area well away from the 1st post.

Each batter will have one good ball bowled to them.

A batter must hold on to the bat whilst running round the track. If this is a genuine accident then once the game play is at a dead ball situation (ball back with bowler) the umpire should ask the batter to retrieve their bat. However if this is obviously deliberate, then the batter is out.

It is a no ball when:

• the ball is above the head/below the knee
• the ball bounces on its way to you
• the ball is wide or straight at body
• the bowler’s foot is outside of the square when they release the ball
• the bowler does not use a smooth underarm action

Please note:

• You can still run on a no ball and can’t be caught out. You score in the same way.

Dentro del currículo de Educación Física encontramos las habilidades manipulativas del lanzamiento y la recepción. Como centro y área bilingüe queremos llevar al alumnado la inclusión de un deporte internacional poco conocido en España y con raices británicas, el criquet. Con ello pretendemos trabajar usando la lengua inglesa las habilidades específicas del cricket con sus términos y reglas inglesas.

Equipment (material necesario)

The most important positions in Cricket: Wicket keeper, Fielder, Bowler and Batsmen (posiciones).

PE teachers have elaborated a basic vocabulary of cricket to let students know the basic rules to play (vocabulario del criquet para el alumnado):

Cricket vocabulary

KIND OF PLAYERS (Tipos de jugadores)

-          Bowler: Player who bowl the ball. (el lanzador)

-          Batsmen/batter: player who bat the ball  (el bateador)

-          Wicket keeper: player who stop the bowled ball form the bowler (jugador tras el bateador que para la bola del bowler)

-          Slips: tres jugadores cerca del wicket para recibir la bola y eliminar al bateador antes de que toque la base donde está el wicket. Puede lanzar la bola para tocar el wicket o tocarlo directamente.

-          Umpire: Referee who control the score (Árbitro que apunta el resultado)

-          Fielder: player in oro ut of pltch who try to catch the ball after hit (jugador del equipo  defensor que recepciona la bola en el campo tras el golpeo del bateador)

CRICKET MATERIAL:

-          Cricket ball: Pelota de criquet

-          Cricket Bat: Bate de criquet

-          Wickets:

o   Stumps: Sticks of the wicket (las 3 estacas del wicket

o   Bails: (2 small and thin sticks who are maintained on the stumps suring the game)

-          Player protections: ship pad, helmet, gloves,…

-          Pitch: main part of the cricket field. (parte principal del campo del cricket)

-          Bibs team: Petos identificativos de los dos equipos

Rules and

Batting

·         Crease: is a certain area demarcated by white lines painted or chalked on the field of play. (area rectangular pintada en el campo donde el bateador se posicionará para batear y a la que debe volver tras cada permuta entre bateadores)

·         Run: Carreras de resultado

·         Not out (Eliminated) (bateador eliminado)

·         Four and Six (four: ball with bounce on pitch and goes out of the pitch and six: ball directly out of the pitch) (Four: bola que bota dentro del campo y sale fuera de los límites y Six bola tras bateo que sale directamente fuera de límites)

·         LBW (Leg before  wicket): extra(s) awarded if the ball hits the batsman's body, but not his bat, while attempting a legitimate shot, and it goes away from the fielders to give the batsmen time to run in the conventional way.(penalidad y repetición cuando la bola golpee el cuerpo del bateador y el umpire entienda que iba con Buena dirección al wicket)

·         Bye: extra(s) awarded if the batsman misses the ball and it goes past the wicketkeeper to give the batsmen time to run in the conventional way (note that one mark of a good wicketkeeper is one who restricts the tally of byes to a minimum). (Cuando el bateador no es capaz de golpear la bola y está es recepcionada por el wicket keeper)

Bowling

·         Innings: periods of changes between fielding and batting teams (cambio entre posiciones de equipo bateador y receptor )

·         Overs: IS a set of six balls bowled from one end of a cricket pitch. (un set de 6 lanzamientos que realizará el bowler )

·         Run

·         Wicket:  is one of the two sets of three stumps and two bails at either end of the pitch.^[2] The wicket is guarded by a batsman who, with his bat, attempts to prevent the ball from hitting the wicket.( el objetivo a derrivar por parte del bateador)

·         No balll:  is a penalty against the fielding team, usually as a result of an illegal delivery by the bowler. The delivery of a No ball results in one run to be added to the batting team's score, and an additional ball must be bowled. (falta del bowler por mal lanzamiento, una carrera es apuntada al equipo bateador y otra bola añadida al set de las 6 bolas (over) para el bowler)

·         Wide: a penalty of one extra that is conceded by the bowler if he bowls so that the ball is out of the batsman's reach; as with a no ball, a wide must be re-bowled (penalidad y repeticion del lanzamiento del bowler cuando la bola va fuera de los límites laterales permitidos)

Bowling

·         Overs: IS a set of six balls bowled from one end of a cricket pitch. (un set de 6 lanzamientos que realizará el bowler )
